The gear lever cap, FIAT works

On the internet I saw a gear lever knob a few weeks ago. It was a magnificent thing and I couldn't forget it. Luckily I saved the ad an this week I bought it at PJ Producten in Nuth. A fine assortment of Fiat an Alfa Romeo parts is stored there too.
Well the knob was irresistable for me. And since I had my birthday last sunday, as a matter of fact I became 50 that day, I treated myself.
The Fiat is a fine car, as I mentioned earlier. But the refinement of the interior is less then the Alfa-quality. So the plastic gear lever knob+cover was tumbling around while changing the gears. It was a dreadful sight. In the Bleu Lord I had a nice cover in leather look, classy and no hole in it. The wooden Momo lever knob makes it kinda 'lusso'.
Now the Fiat needed an uplift. The knob I found was sporty and suited the Fiat. Wood and aluminium. For the occasion even my wife bought a new sewing machine to construct a nice cover in leather... (-look at least). As a good designer suits I made some initial sketchings for the adaption in the Fiat. The original knob was a no go show, so I invented a new construction. The pretty knob, an adaptional construction on the gear lever housing and the lever cap.

Behold my first attempts to uplift the interior of our Punto. The cover is in progres.

The original gear lever of the Fiat: plastic fantastic?

The Alfa Romeo reference ...

... and construction.

The reference was not completely applicable on the Fiat without drilling holes in the Punto console. That I didn't want, so I desinged an alternative.

An aluminium U-profile, some rods and nuts, a little bit of measuring, sawing and fiddling...

Ready is the gear lever plus adapted mounting frame for the cap

Another angle on the pretty knob.

The construction, Fiat improved. The cover will be draped over the aluminium profiles which lay a few millimeters above the plastic gear lever housing.
